Abstract
Background: Lateral epicondylitis, commonly referred to as Tennis Elbow, is a pathological condition that disrupts joint flexibility, muscle function, and range of motion caused by inflammation of the common extensor tendon due to tendinopathy, which is attached to the lateral epicondyle. Common complaints experienced by tennis elbow sufferers are sharp pain in the lateral epicondyle of the elbow, long-lasting pain resulting in decreased range of motion of the joint and decreased muscle strength which ultimately impacts on decreased functional ability. Objective: This study aims to determine the process of implementing physiotherapy using ultrasound, exercise therapy in reducing pain and increasing range of motion of the joint in tennis elbow conditions. Method: This study uses a case report method on a 45-year-old female housewife with a diagnosis of left tennis elbow at Koja Regional Hospital who experienced pain when moving the elbow, carrying goods, limitations in daily activities. Examination was carried out using a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for pain, Patient Rated Tennis Elbow Evaluation (PRTEE) for functional ability, range of motion with a goniometer and muscle strength using Manual Muscle Testing (MMT). Data were collected through interviews, observations and measurements during therapy. Results: After four therapies, interventions that include the use of ultrasound, eccentric exercise and stretching, the evaluation results showed a significant increase in the reduction of pain levels of motion by 3.8 points, tenderness 3.3 points and silent pain 3.9 points, an increase in the range of motion of the joint in elbow flexion and supination of 15° each, and extension and flexion of the wrist of 10° each, an increase in muscle strength to 5 and an increase in the patient's functional ability to 24.5/100 a decrease of 31 points. Conclusion: Overall, this study shows that the use of Ultrasound modalities, and exercise therapy in the form of Eccentric exercise, and Stretching Exercise can reduce pain and increase the range of motion of the joint in patients with tennis Elbow.
