Abstract
The development of energy-efficient cars in the prototype category requires optimization in various aspects, particularly in reducing chassis weight without compromising structural strength. This study aims to design and analyze a ladder frame chassis for the "Fatmawati 2" vehicle using Aluminum 6063 T5 and Aluminum 6061 T6 materials. The method employed is the Finite Element Method (FEM) using ANSYS 2024 R1 software to simulate static loading (driver, engine, body, and steering system) and rollbar testing. Two design variations were tested: Design 1 (470 mm width) and Design 2 (520 mm width). Simulation results indicate that Design 1 with Al 6061 T6 material achieved the best performance under static loading, with a deformation of 1.6018 mm, a Von misses stress of 58.288 MPa, and a safety factor of 4.718. Conversely, Design 2 excelled in rollover stability with a critical speed of 47.8 km/h and higher torsional stiffness of 73.48 Nm/deg. Both designs met the weight target of under 9 kg, weighing 8.373 kg and 8.638 kg, respectively.
