Abstract
Ankle sprain is a highly prevalent musculoskeletal condition in athletes that can compromise lower extremity kinetic chain stability. This cross-sectional, comparative observational study evaluated the risk of secondary lower extremity injuries between contact and non-contact athletes with prior ankle sprains at the Jakarta High Performance Center (JHPC) Clinic. Based on 2024 medical records, 50 eligible athletes were selected using total sampling. Descriptive analysis showed that ankle sprain history was more common in contact sport athletes (n = 35; 70%). Bivariate analysis showed no statistically significant relationship between sport type and subsequent lower extremity injury (p = 0.297). Nevertheless, contact athletes exhibited an Odds Ratio of 2.667, pointing to an elevated clinical risk. In conclusion, although statistical risk differences were not significant, contact sport athletes demonstrated a clinically higher risk tendency (OR) and a higher frequency of secondary injuries.
