Abstract

The elderly are considered a vulnerable group because aging causes the body to putting them at risk for health problems. A common health issue for the elderly is hypertension. Non-pharmacological therapy such as elderly exercise and finger grip relaxation based on evidence-based practice can be an intervention in hypertension management. The aim of this study is to provide nursing care for the application of elderly exercise and finger grip relaxation to lower blood pressure in hypertensive elderly. This study was designed using a case study approach with interventions administered twice weekly. Blood pressure measurements were taken on both clients before and after each intervention. The findings of this study showed a decrease in blood pressure in both clients. The client’s before elderly exercise intervention from 155/79 mmHg to 146/71 mmHg, the resume clients decreased 158/95 mmHg to 149/89 mmHg. Similar findings were also observed in finger grip relaxation. The client's decreased from 147/76 mmHg to 135/67 mmHg, while the resume client decreased from 151/88 mmHg to 137/80 mmHg. It can be concluded that both interventions can be effective in controlling blood pressure in elderly hypertensive patients.
