Abstract
Stroke is a neurological disorder that commonly leads to dysphagia due to impaired cranial nerve function and reduced coordination of the oropharyngeal muscles. If not properly managed, dysphagia can increase the risk of aspiration, pneumonia, malnutrition, and delayed recovery. This study aims to analyze nursing care for two ischemic stroke patients with dysphagia through the application of Thermal Tactile Stimulation (TTS). The case study was carried out over three days, covering assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. TTS was administered using a cooled 00 laryngeal mirror applied to the anterior faucial pillars and the tongue three times daily for 20 minutes per session. The results showed improvements in swallowing ability in both patients. In Patient 1, the DSRS score decreased from 11 to 10, the MASA score increased from 161 to 168, and the FOIS level improved from 2 to 3. In Patient 2, the DSRS score decreased from 6 to 4, the MASA score increased from 155 to 164, and the FOIS level rose from 4 to 5. These findings indicate that TTS can enhance swallowing reflexes, reduce aspiration risk, and improve oral intake tolerance. Overall, TTS is an effective nonpharmacological intervention for dysphagia management in stroke patients.
