Abstract
Fatigue is one of the most common side effects experienced by chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients undergoing hemodialysis, impacting functional ability, sleep quality, and overall quality of life. Repeated weekly hemodialysis sessions cause physiological changes, toxin accumulation, fluid imbalances, and psychological stress, all contributing to the chronicity of fatigue. Non-pharmacological interventions such as Range of Motion (ROM) exercises and Deep Breathing Exercises are effective and safe strategies for reducing fatigue by improving blood circulation, improving muscle capacity, and reducing physical and psychological stress. The interventions were administered over two weeks during four hemodialysis sessions within the first two hours of hemodialysis. At baseline, the managed patient showed a fatigue score of 28 and the continuing patient a score of 29, both in the moderate fatigue category. After structured implementation of ROM exercises and deep breathing exercises, fatigue scores increased, indicating improved condition, to 35 in the managed patient and 38 in the resume patient, which is categorized as mild fatigue. These results indicate that ROM exercises and deep breathing exercises are effective in reducing fatigue levels in hemodialysis patients and can be recommended as safe, simple, and applicable non-pharmacological interventions in carrying out cooling practices.
