Abstract
The prevalence of hypertension among young adults residing in urban environments is currently experiencing a significant upward trend. Shifts in lifestyle patterns, specifically sedentary behavior and elevated Body Mass Index (BMI), have been identified as primary contributors to this clinical condition. This study aims to analyze the relationship between sedentary habits, BMI status, and the risk of hypertension among the young adult population in urban areas. This research utilized a cross-sectional study design, involving 122 respondents selected through a stratified random sampling technique. Data collection instruments included the Sedentary Behaviour Questionnaire (SBQ) to assess physical inactivity levels, anthropometric measurements to determine BMI, and a sphygmomanometer to evaluate blood pressure parameters. Statistical analysis performed via One-Way ANOVA revealed that sedentary behavior does not maintain a significant correlation with either systolic (p value=0,119) or diastolic (p value=0,093) blood pressure. Conversely, the BMI variable demonstrated a highly significant correlation with both systolic (p value=0,001) and diastolic (p value=0,003) hypertension levels. The findings conclude that BMI serves as a more determinant factor for hypertension risk compared to sedentary behaviour among young adults in urban settings. These results underscore that weight management is a critical intervention for the early prevention of hypertension.
