Abstract
Cognitive decline in older adults causes by Dementia is an important issue as it affects independence and quality of life. Sleep pattern disturbances and low levels of physical activity are suspected to contribute to cognitive decline in older adults, particularly those living in social care institutions. This study aimed to examine the relationship between sleep patterns and physical activity with cognitive function among older adults at Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia 1 Jakarta. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 67 older adults selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), and the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE). Data analysis included univariate and bivariate analyses using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that a proportion of respondents had poor sleep quality and low levels of physical activity. Most respondents experienced moderate cognitive impairment. The Chi-Square test indicated no significant relationship between sleep patterns and cognitive function (p=0.233); however, a significant relationship was found between physical activity and cognitive function (p=0.001). In conclusion, physical activity was significantly associated with cognitive function in older adults, whereas sleep patterns were not significantly related.
