Abstract
Approximately 98% of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergo hemodialysis as the primary therapy to maintain renal function and systemic balance. CKD is a progressive disorder characterized by declining glomerular filtration, and when the GFR falls below 15 mL/min/1.73 m², the condition is classified as End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), requiring renal replacement therapy. Fatigue and intradialytic blood pressure fluctuations both hypertension and hypotension are common adverse effects of hemodialysis that significantly influence tissue perfusion and patient quality of life. Acupressure has emerged as a safe and effective non-pharmacological intervention to address these issues. In this study, acupressure was applied to GV20, GB20, PC6, ST36, and LV3 using circular thumb pressure of 3–4 kg for 10 minutes before dialysis sessions over two weeks. The intervention resulted in a reduction of fatigue scores from 5.14 to 3.55 in the managed patient and from 5.05 to 3.80 in the resume patient, measured using the Piper Fatigue Scale (PFS). Hemodynamic stability also improved, with blood pressure increasing from 99/45 mmHg to 125/57 mmHg in the managed patient and remaining stable in the resume patient 130/77 to 129/85 mmHg. These findings indicate that acupressure is effective in reducing fatigue and stabilizing intradialytic blood pressure in hemodialysis patients.
