Abstract

Higher than normal blood sugar levels are a common symptom of diabetes. Diabetes is now not only experienced by the elderly, but is also increasingly common among young people. This study aims to analyze the relationship between academic stress and sedentary lifestyle with the risk of diabetes in final year students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, UPN ‘Veteran’ Jakarta. This study uses a cross-sectional approach with data collection through Google Forms and analyzed using the chi-square test. The respondents of this study were 227 final-year students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, UPN “Veteran” Jakarta, obtained through stratified random sampling. The questionnaires used in this study were the Perceived Academic Stress Scale (PASS), Sedentary Behavior Questionnaire (SBQ), and The Modified FINDRISC-BI. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant relationship between academic stress and diabetes risk with a p-value of 0.001 (p<0.05) and an OR of 0.0715. Respondents who experience academic stress are 0.0715 times more likely to have diabetes risk compared to respondents who do not experience academic stress. There was no relationship between sedentary lifestyle and diabetes risk, with a p-value of 0.268 (p>0.05). The results of this study are expected to increase student awareness to reduce sedentary lifestyles, manage stress, and undergo early diabetes risk screening, especially for those with risk factors.
