Abstract
This research discusses the design and realization of a microstrip antenna operating at 3.5 GHz for 5G applications. The antenna was designed using CST Studio with optimized dimensions of 18 mm patch width, 25 mm patch length, 41 mm groundplane/substrate width, 35 mm groundplane/substrate length, and 7.5 mm feedline length. Simulation results show a resonant frequency of 3.50 GHz with a return loss of –24.56 dB and a VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) of 1.118, while measurement using a VNA indicates a shifted resonant frequency of 3.60 GHz with a return loss of –23.68 dB and a VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) of 1.140. The 0.10 GHz frequency shift is attributed to variations in the dielectric constant of the FR-5 substrate, fabrication tolerances, and parasitic effects from the SMA connector and soldering. Overall, the fabricated antenna meets the design specifications with return loss < –10 dB and VSWR close to 1, making it feasible for 5G communication applications.
