Abstract
Background: Educational administrative work requires prolonged sitting and intensive computer use, which increases the risk of neck pain complaints, with a prevalence of 47.1% among university administrators and 64% among office workers. Previous study showed that sedentary behaviour is reported to increase the risk of neck pain by 1.36 times, but research findings on the relationship between prolonged sitting, neck pain, and work productivity remain inconsistent. Research Purpose: This research aims to determine the relationship between prolonged sitting and neck pain complaints on work productivity among administrative staff at UPN “Veteran” Jakarta. Methods: This research uses a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 66 educational administrative staff from four faculties at UPN “Veteran” Jakarta. Data were collected using IPAQ-SF for a sitting duration, the Nordic Body Map for neck pain complaints, and IWPQ for work productivity. Result: No significant relationship between sitting duration and upper neck pain complaints (p = 0.351; r = 0.117) or lower neck pain complaints (p = 0.754; r = 0.039). Furthermore, no significant relationship was found between neck pain complaints and work productivity (p > 0.05), nor between sitting duration and work productivity (p = 0.356; r = –0.115). Conclusion: Prolonged sitting was not significantly associated with neck pain complaints or work productivity among administrative staff at UPN “Veteran” Jakarta.
