Abstract

This study designs and implements an automatic drinking water filtration system for house pets using Ambon banana peel waste as a natural filtration medium. The research is motivated by the low awareness of pet owners regarding water quality, which is vulnerable to bacterial contamination and suspended impurities. The system is built using an ESP32 microcontroller and integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) technology through the Blynk application to enable real-time monitoring of water conditions. Water quality parameters are measured using a pH sensor, a turbidity sensor, and a JSN-SR04T ultrasonic sensor. Experimental results show that the pH sensor achieves an accuracy of 96% to 100%, while the turbidity sensor reaches 98.8% to 100%. The Ambon banana peel filter effectively improves water quality by increasing the pH from an acidic value of 4.92 to a stable range of 6.4–6.6 and reducing turbidity from 3.01 NTU to 1.08 NTU. This system facilitates owners in monitoring and maintaining the quality of pets’ drinking water automatically and remotely. Consequently, the developed technology contributes to improving pet health through the sustainable and environmentally friendly utilization of organic waste.
