Abstract

The implementation of a decentralized system by the central government gives regions greater authority to manage their territories independently. Local governments compete to prove to the central government that they have the capacity to develop the local economy. Therefore, local governments can optimize potential sectors to increase local revenue. One strategy that can be implemented is to maximize the potential of the tourism sector. This sector is considered one of the main drivers of regional development through contributions in the form of taxes, levies, and increased economic activity among the community. This study uses a quantitative approach with secondary data, including the number of tourist attractions, the number of tourist visits, the number of restaurants, and the number of hotels as independent variables, while the local revenue of regencies/cities serves as the dependent variable. The data was obtained from the Ministry of Finance and the West Java Provincial Tourism and Culture Office for the period 2014–2023. The analysis was conducted using a panel data regression model that integrates crosssection and time-series dimensions, using Stata 17 software and hypothesis testing at a significance level of 5% (0.05). The research sample covered 18 districts and 9 cities in West Java Province. The results showed that (1) the number of tourist attractions had no effect on PAD in districts/cities in West Java Province; (2) the number of tourist visits had a significant positive effect on PAD in districts/cities in West Java Province; (3) the number of restaurants had a significant positive effect on PAD in districts/cities in West Java Province; (4) the number of hotels has a significant positive effect on PAD in regencies/cities in West Java Province; the number of tourist attractions, the number of tourist visits, the number of restaurants, and the number of hotels together have a significant effect on PAD in regencies/cities in West Java Province.
