Abstract
SMA Negeri 1 Tajurhalang experiences challenges in managing students’ academic scores and attendance due to systems that are not yet fully integrated, resulting in issues related to data processing performance, information accuracy, access control, time efficiency, and academic service quality. This research aims to design and develop a web-based academic information system to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of academic data management. The system requirements analysis is conducted using the PIECES approach (Performance, Information, Economy, Control, Efficiency, and Service) to identify existing problems, particularly in the areas of slow data recapitulation, data inconsistency, limited access control, and suboptimal academic information services for teachers and students. The system is developed using the prototype development method, which allows direct user involvement throughout the development stages to ensure that the system aligns with the school’s operational needs and workflows. The system is implemented using PHP as the programming language, MySQL as the database management system, and JavaScript to support the user interface. The developed system provides features for managing daily scores, midterm and final examination scores by subject teachers, as well as attendance recording and automatic recapitulation by duty teachers. In addition, students are able to access academic information independently and download academic reports in PDF and Excel formats. The results of this study indicate that the developed academic information system improves data processing performance, enhances the accuracy and organization of academic information, strengthens data control, and improves the quality of academic services at SMA Negeri 1 Tajurhalang.
