Abstract

The transmission bracket is one of the critical structural components in the power transmission system of energy-efficient vehicles, particularly the Soedirman 2.0 supermileage car that participates in competitions such as the Kontes Mobil Hemat Energi (KMHE) and the Shell Eco-Marathon. This component must be capable of withstanding both static and dynamic loads, especially the sudden tensile force generated by the chain during initial acceleration. This study employs the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) method to analyze loading conditions and perform topology optimization based on the SIMP method using ANSYS Mechanical software. Two materials are compared in this research, namely ASTM A36 and Al 6061-T6, to determine the most efficient material in terms of mass, structural strength, and safety factor. The analysis results indicate that the optimal configuration for ASTM A36 yields a final mass of 1.3177 kg, while Al 6061-T6 results in a mass of 0.49623 kg. The final designs incorporating manufacturing considerations have masses of 1.343 kg and 0.499 kg, respectively. The loading simulations produce maximum von Mises stresses of 147.71 MPa and 136.94 MPa for each material, with safety factors of 2.031 and 2.0154, respectively. For the final designs, the maximum von Mises stresses are 140.93 MPa and 132.5 MPa, with safety factors of 2.128 and 2.0831. The total deformations are 0.0638 mm and 0.18033 mm for the optimized designs, and 0.064238 mm and 0.18132 mm for the final designs, respectively, all of which remain within the elastic range. Based on these results, Al 6061-T6 is considered a viable alternative material for the transmission bracket, as it provides a significantly lower mass while maintaining comparable structural performance.
