Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of exchange rates, raw material prices, and investment in the apparel industry on Indonesia's apparel exports to Japan. Export-import activities are an important mechanism in meeting global needs, whereby countries with limited resources tend to import, while countries with production advantages distribute their products through exports. Garments are one of Indonesia's leading commodities in the non-oil and gas industry sector, with Japan as one of its main trading partners. This study uses a quantitative approach utilizing secondary data obtained from CEIC Data. The research population is Indonesia, while the sample consists of 156 observations in the form of monthly data for the period 2012–2024. The analysis technique used is Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL), which is capable of identifying short-term and long-term relationships between variables. Data processing was performed using Stata-17 software. The results of this study found that there is cointegration or a long-term relationship between the exchange rate, raw material prices, and investment variables on the value of Indonesia's finished clothing exports to Japan. In the long term, only the investment variable has a negative effect, while the exchange rate and raw material prices have no effect. In the short term, the exchange rate variable has a significant positive effect and raw material prices have a significant negative effect, while investment has no effect on the value of Indonesian apparel exports to Japan.
