Abstract
Household electricity consumption is an important indicator reflecting economic activity and the overall welfare of society. This study aims to analyze the effects of income, electricity tariffs, and the number of customers on household electricity consumption across 33 provinces in Indonesia during the 2017–2023 period. The method employed is dynamic panel data analysis using the System Generalized Method of Moments (Sys-GMM) approach. Data were obtained from PLN Statistics and the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics. The findings show that income has a positive but insignificant effect on household electricity consumption, indicating that electricity use is more strongly influenced by basic needs and limitations in energy access rather than income levels. Electricity tariffs have a negative and significant effect, suggesting that tariff increases encourage households to reduce electricity usage. Meanwhile, the number of customers has a positive and significant effect, indicating that expanded access to electricity increases total electricity consumption in a province. Overall, the results highlight that changes in household electricity consumption in Indonesia are more influenced by cost structure and the expansion of electricity access than by income levels.
