Abstract
The development of information technology and social media poses challenges in maintaining patient confidentiality, including among clinical clerks’ who actively use social media during professional medical education. Medical confidentiality is a fundamental patient right related to privacy and an ethical obligation in medical practice. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between knowledge of medical ethics related to social media use and the attitudes and behaviors of clinical clerks’ in maintaining patient confidentiality at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta. This study employed a quantitative analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 77 clinical clerks’ were selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed through univariate and bivariate analyses using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that most respondents had good knowledge (63.6%), positive attitudes (74%), and good behaviors (66.2%) in maintaining patient confidentiality. Bivariate analysis demonstrated a significant relationship between knowledge of medical ethics related to social media use and clinical clerks’ attitudes (p=0.002) as well as their behaviors in maintaining patient confidentiality (p=0.005). This study concludes that improved knowledge of medical ethics related to social media use plays an important role in shaping ethical attitudes and behaviors among clinical clerks’.
