Abstract

HIV patients have a weakened immune system due to the virus attacking their CD4 cells, leading to a progressive decline. This highlights the importance of monitoring and evaluating antiretroviral (ARV) therapy to improve patient immunological status, as measured by CD4 levels. This study aims to analyze the effect of first-line ARV therapy on increasing CD4 levels in HIV patients during the period 2023-2024. This study used an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional design and involved 49 samples taken using a total sampling technique from the medical records of HIV patients at PELNI Hospital between January 2023 and December 2024. Descriptive analysis of patients' CD4 counts before therapy had a mean of 123,14 cells/mm3 then became 265,2 cells/mm3 after 6 months of first-line ARV therapy. There was an increase in CD4 levels after 6 months of therapy. Wilcoxon analysis showed a significant association between 6 months of first-line therapy and increased CD4 counts (p=0,000). This result can occur because first-line ARV therapy is effective in suppressing virus replication so that CD4 cell destruction stop. There was a significant association between first-line ARV therapy and CD4 counts. 6 months of firs-line ARV therapy successfully increased CD4 counts in most HIV patients.
