Abstract

Sedentary lifestyle among university students heightened the risk of excessive fat accumulation as indicated by Waist Circumference (WC), Waist to Height Ratio (WtHR), and visceral fat measurements. This fat accumulation may influence metabolic age. A metabolic age higher than chronological age indicates higher risk of cardiometabolic diseases. This study aims to determine the relationships between waist circumference (WC), WtHR, and visceral fat with metabolic age among medical students of UPN "Veteran" Jakarta. This study employed an analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach and involved a total of 103 respondents. Demographic and inclusion criteria were collected through questionnaire. Waist circumference and WtHR measured using stadiometer and waist ruler (OD235), while visceral fat and metabolic age were assessed using Tanita MC-980MA plus. Bivariate analysis was conducted using Chi Square. The results showed majority respondents had non-risk WC (69.9%) and WtHR (59.2%), normal visceral fat (96.1%), and older metabolic age (76.7%). Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between WC and WtHR with metabolic age (p<0.05), whereas visceral fat showed no significant relationship with metabolic age (p=0.571). In conclusion, WC and WtHR were significantly associated with metabolic age, whereas visceral fat was not. These results highlight the importance of monitoring antrophometric indicators of obesity and promoting lifestyle interventions to prevent increases in metabolic age.
