Abstract
This study aims to determine the association between characteristics among pediatric epilepsy patients, particularly sex as well as age at onset, and a history of complex febrile seizures. Cross sectional study was performed using secondary data from medical records of pediatric epilepsy patients at RSUP Persahabatan during the period January 2024 - November 2025. A total of 58 children who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were included. Statistical analysis comprised univariate and bivariate analyses using the Chi-Square test. Most pediatric patients were male (53.4%) and had epilepsy onset at age >5 years (51.7%). Prior history of complex febrile seizures was observed in 43.1% of children. No statistically significant association was identified between sex and history of complex febrile seizures based on bivariate analysis (p = 0.469). Significant association was identified between the age at which epilepsy began and history of complex febrile seizures, with patients whose epilepsy onset occurred at ≤5 years more frequently having a prior record of complex febrile seizures (p < 0.001). Significant association was revealed among age at epilepsy onset and the presence of a history of complex febrile seizures in children with epilepsy. Unsignificant association is found between sex and history of complex febrile seizures. Keywords : pediatric epilepsy, complex febrile seizures, age at onset, sex
