Abstract

Technological developments, particularly social media, can facilitate the activities of the people who use them. However, social media can also have a negative impact on society, such as consumptive behavior due to Fear of Missing Out (FoMO). This phenomenon can reduce the tendency to save because individuals are driven to buy various trends that appear on social media, especially when Islamic financial literacy is still low. This study aims to analyze the influence of FoMO on saving behavior and to examine the role of self-control and Islamic financial literacy as moderating variables. The study uses a quantitative method with primary data obtained through questionnaires administered to 130 Muslim Generation Z individuals in the Greater Jakarta area who use Islamic digital banks. Purposive sampling was used to determine the sample, and the analysis was conducted using Partial Least Square (PLS) using SmartPLS 4. The results of the study show that FoMO has a negative effect on saving behavior, while self-control is able to moderate this relationship positively. Individuals with high self-control tend to be able to resist the consumptive urges triggered by FoMO. However, sharia financial literacy was not found to moderate the influence of FoMO on saving behavior. These findings contribute to the theoretical understanding of Generation Z's financial behavior and serve as a reference for sharia digital banks in developing more effective financial education strategies.
