Abstract

Halal product assurance plays a crucial role in Indonesia’s culinary industry, especially with the enforcement of the Mandatory Halal policy in 2024 based on Law No. 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance. However, the effectiveness of supervision carried out by the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) still faces various challenges, particularly in ensuring the compliance of culinary business actors in the Special Capital Region of Jakarta with the prevailing regulations. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effectiveness of BPJPH’s supervision in ensuring the safety and halal integrity of culinary products in Jakarta. This research employed a qualitative method and relied on primary data obtained through documentation, direct observation, and interviews with BPJPH officials and other relevant informants. The findings indicate that halal supervision has been implemented, yet its effectiveness remains suboptimal due to constraints such as limited supervisory personnel, uneven inspection coverage, and insufficient outreach to business actors. Nevertheless, halal certification is perceived to significantly support business development by increasing consumer trust and improving production management quality, highlighting the need for continuous guidance and education from BPJPH to ensure the sustainability of the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH).
