Abstract

Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disease that causes neuromuscular transmission disorders. Data on the clinical presentation of myasthenia gravis patients in Indonesia, particularly in South Jakarta, is still limited. This study aims to describe the clinical characteristics and management of patients with Myasthenia Gravis (MG) at Fatmawati General Hospital in 2024. Methods: This study is a descriptive cross-sectional study using secondary medical record data. Results: Of the total 278 MG patients recorded in 2024, 71 patients met the inclusion criteria for the study. The mean age of patients was 43.54 years, with the largest age group being 30–39 years (25.4%). All patients (100%) received anticholinesterase therapy, with the most commonly used doses being 180 mg/day and 240 mg/day (32.4% each). Immunosuppressive therapy was administered to 21 patients (29.6%), with azathioprine being the most common regimen (16.9%). A total of 34 patients (47.9%) had a history of respiratory tract infection prior to the onset or exacerbation of MG. Myasthenic crisis was found in 11.3% of patients, while 88.7% of patients did not experience myasthenic crisis during the course of the disease. Chest imaging results showed the presence of thymoma in 14.1% of patients, and thymectomy was performed in only 8.5% of patients. Conclusion: The clinical profile of myasthenia gravis patients at Fatmawati General Hospital in 2024 was most commonly found in the 30–39 age group, female, with initial ocular symptoms, and given anticholinesterase therapy.
