Abstract
Uncontrolled blood pressure among young adults is increasingly common and may elevate long-term cardiovascular risk. This study aimed to determine the relationship between dietary fiber intake, fast-food consumption, and waist–hip ratio (WHR) with blood pressure among university students. This analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design included 55 students from the Faculty of Economics and Business, class of 2024. Data were collected using a Food Frequency Questionnaire to assess fiber intake and fast-food consumption, WHR measurements, and blood pressure examination. Bivariate analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test or Fisher’s Exact Test with a significance level of 0.05. Most respondents had normal blood pressure (67.3%), inadequate fiber intake (96.4%), frequent fast-food consumption (56.4%), and normal WHR (58.2%). No significant relationship was observed between fiber intake (p = 1.000), fast-food consumption (p = 0.507), or WHR (p = 0.391) and blood pressure. Low fiber intake, high fast-food consumption, and WHR did not significantly influence blood pressure among students. The homogeneity of age, lifestyle, and dietary patterns may explain the absence of association.
