Abstract

Background: ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) remains one of the leading causes of cardiovascular mortality. Ineffective management may contribute to impaired left function, commonly assessed through the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). According to current guidelines, primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) is the recommended reperfusion strategy for STEMI. Nevertheless, post-procedural LVEF outcomes continue to vary substantially among patients. This study aims to assess changes in LVEF from baseline to 6 – 12 months after PPCI among STEMI patients treated at Persahabatan General Hospital during the 2022 – 2024 period. Method: A retrospective design was adopted in this study, involving a systematic review of medical records from STEMI patients who underwent PPCI at Persahabatan General Hospital over the periode of 2022 – 2024. Results: The study comprised 37 STEMI patients who had undergone primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI). During the 2022 – 2024 period, the mean baseline LVEF was recorded at 51,14 ± 15,212 and subsequently decreased to 49,73 ± 17,120 at follow-up. Nonetheless, this difference proved statistically non-significant (p = 0,569). Conclusion: Analysis revealed no statistically significant difference between baseline and follow-up LVEF values in STEMI patients after PPCI. This finding indicates that the degree of left ventricular functional recovery following reperfusion may differ considerably across individuals, reflecting the role of varying clinical factors.
