Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of workload, work environment, and work motivation on employee performance, as well as examine the moderating role of work stress among employees in construction companies located in Jakarta. The phenomenon of declining employee performance due to high work pressure, inadequate work environments, and fluctuating motivation highlights the urgency for organizations to strengthen human resource management strategies. This research employs a quantitative approach using a survey method with a sample of construction employees. The data were analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique with SmartPLS 4.0. The results reveal that workload has a significant negative effect on employee performance, indicating that excessive workload reduces effectiveness, quality, and employees’ ability to achieve work targets. Conversely, the work environment has a significant positive effect on performance, where supportive and comfortable workplace conditions are shown to improve focus, enthusiasm, and overall employee output. Work motivation also demonstrates a significant positive effect on employee performance, confirming its role as an internal driver that enhances dedication and commitment. However, work stress does not effectively moderate the influence of workload, work environment, or work motivation on employee performance. The moderating effect of stress tends to be weak and in some cases even reverses the positive influence of other variables.
