Abstract
Background: Bone mass is essential for preventing osteoporosis. Decreased bone mass is accelerated by sedentary behavior and increased fat mass, a high risk among Medical students due to heavy academic demands. This study aims to analyze the relationship between physical activity and fat mass on bone mass in Medical Faculty students at UPN "Veteran" Jakarta. Methods: This quantitative analytical cross-sectional study involved 60 active students. Physical activity was measured using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), while fat mass and bone mass were measured using the Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) TANITA MC-980MA. Bivariate analysis was conducted using the Chi-square/Fisher Exact test. Results: Most respondents had moderate physical activity (88,3%), normal fat mass (68.3%), and low bone mass (78.3%). Physical activity was significantly associated with bone mass (p = 0.029),with low to moderate activity linked to low bone mass. In contrast, fat mass showed no significant association with bone mass (p = 0.609). Conclusion: Physical activity is significantly related to bone mass. Increased physical activity is highly recommended for students to maintain bone health. Keywords : Bone Mass, Fat Mass, Medical Students, Physical Activity
