Abstract
HIV infection reduces the immune system through progressive damage to CD4+ cells, so medical personnel need to periodically evaluate the effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy (ART). The researchers aimed to analyze the effect of the duration of first-line ART on the increase in CD4+ levels in adult HIV patients during the 2023–2024 period. The researchers used an analytical observational study design with a cross-sectional approach. This study was conducted in August 2025 at Pelni Hospital by utilizing medical records of patients who had undergone ART for at least 6 months, selecting 50 data points through simple random sampling, and using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Wilcoxon test. The analysis results showed that the duration of first-line ART administration influenced the increase in CD4+ levels in adult patients, with an average of 256.88 cells/mm³ at 6 months and 335.78 cells/mm³ at 12 months. These findings confirm that the duration of first-line ARV administration plays an important role in the success of the immunological response in HIV patients and emphasize the need for continuous therapy monitoring.
