Abstract
Background: Stroke ischemic accounts for 80% of all types of stroke in Indonesia. Aspirin and Clopidogrel are pharmacological therapies commonly given to patients and serve as initial and supportive therapies for ischemic stroke. Due to many differing results from previous studies, this research aims to compare aspirin and clopidogrel therapies in relation to the duration of patient hospitalization. Objective: The study analyzed the comparison between Aspirin and Clopidogrel Therapy on the length of hospital stay in ischemic stroke patients. Methods: This study uses a cross-sectional design and purposive sampling method on 30 ischemic stroke patients treated with Aspirin and 30 ischemic stroke patients treated with Clopidogrel. Results: Using Mann-Whitney Test, the average hospital stay for ischemic stroke patients treated with Aspirin was 5.6±1.22 days, while for those treated with Clopidogrel it was 4.53±1.45 days. The comparison of the two group means showed a significant difference with a p value of 0.006. Conclusion: Ischemic stroke patients who given Clopidogrel therapy had a hospital stay 1.07 days shorter than those given Aspirin. This is based on the mechanism of Clopidogrel, which not only inhibits platelet aggregation but also reduces thrombus formation in vital areas, thereby reducing the risk of vascular events. Furthermore, Clopidogrel does not have side effects on gastrointestinal bleeding.
