Abstract
Objective: The increasing prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) poses not only a global challenge but also a significant local health burden, including in West Java Province, particularly in Bekasi City. If poorly managed, this condition can lead to chronic hyperglycemia and long-term organ damage. Therefore, effective pharmacological interventions are required to achieve optimal glycemic control, particularly using oral antidiabetic drugs (OADs). Methods: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of OAD monotherapy, dual therapy, and triple therapy on the reducing of HbA1C levels among T2DM patients at Annisa Hospital, North Cikarang. The study employed an observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 192 samples were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected from the medical records of T2DM patients receiving OAD therapy during 2022–2024 and analyzed using univariate and bivariate tests (Kruskal–Wallis and post hoc Mann–Whitney tests). Results: Univariate analysis showed the highest distribution in monotherapy (metformin and gliquidone) of 34.37%, dual therapy (metformin + glimepiride) of 56.25%, and triple therapy (metformin + glimepiride + acarbose) of 62.50%. Bivariate analysis demonstrated a significant change in HbA1C levels after OAD administration (p = 0.007). Conclusion: Triple OAD therapy (metformin, glibenclamide, and acarbose) was found to be the most effective regimen in reducing HbA1C levels among T2DM patients at Annisa Hospital, North Cikarang.
