Abstract
Purpose Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) stage 4 uses insulin glargine which is available in two formulations, namely glargine 100 U/ml (Gla-100) and glargine 300 U/ml (Gla-300), which was developed to provide a more stable effect and lower risk of hypoglycemia. This study aims to compare the incidence of hypoglycemia in stage 4 CKD patients using Gla100 and Gla-300 at the Jakarta Islamic Hospital Pondok Kopi in 2024. Methodology This was an analytical observational study with a retrospective cross-sectional approach using secondary data from medical records. A total of 29 patients met the inclusion criteria, comprising 17 Gla-100 users and 12 Gla-300 users. Bivariate analysis was performed using Fisher’s Exact Test.. Result Hypoglycemia occurred in 10 out of 17 patients (58.82%) using Gla-100 and in 3 out of 12 patients (25%) using Gla-300. However, Fisher’s Exact Test yielded a p-value of 0.053, indicating no statistically significant association between the type of basal insulin and the incidence of hypoglycemia at a 95% confidence level. Conclusion There was no significant difference in hypoglycemia incidence between patients using glargine 100 and glargine 300. Although Gla-300 showed a lower numerical rate of hypoglycemia, the difference was not statistically significant.
