Abstract
Excessive accumulation of body fat caused by an imbalance between energy intake and expenditure is referred to as overweight. Various factors can influence the occurrence of overweight, including a diet high in sugar, salt, and fat, insufficient water consumption, a sedentary lifestyle, and insufficient sleep duration. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the frequency of sugar, salt, fat, and water consumption, sedentary lifestyle, and sleep duration with the occurrence of overweight among employees at the University of National Development “Veteran” Jakarta. The study design used was cross-sectional with 102 respondents selected through stratified random sampling. Data collection was conducted through interviews using the Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ), water consumption questionnaire, Sedentary Behavior Questionnaire (SBQ), and Sleep Timing Questionnaire (STQ). Data analysis included univariate and bivariate analysis using the chi-square test. The results of the univariate analysis showed that most participants had excessive sugar consumption habits (51%), excessive salt consumption habits (50%), excessive fat consumption habits (50%), insufficient water consumption habits (79.4%), had a high sedentary lifestyle (74.5%), and had insufficient sleep duration (62.7%). The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant association between sugar consumption (p=0.016), fat consumption (p=0.023), and sedentary lifestyle (p=0.000) with overweight status. However, the relationship between water consumption (p=0.481), salt consumption (p=0.537), and sleep duration (p=0.171) with overweight was not significant.
