Abstract

The normalization of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran, mediated by China in 2023, marks a change in the political dynamics in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia, which is currently seeking to realize its Saudi Vision 2030, feels that it would be beneficial to agree to normalize diplomatic relations with Iran. Similarly, Iran, which is currently facing economic sanctions from the United States and its allies, feels that it can cooperate with Saudi Arabia in the economic field to strengthen its national economic growth. This study aims to explain the economic cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Iran following the normalization of diplomatic relations. The researcher uses international cooperation theory and diplomacy concepts to support this research. This research uses a qualitative-descriptive method with primary data sources through interviews and secondary sources through mass media and journal articles. The final results of this research show that Saudi Arabia and Iran's economic cooperation after the normalization of relations has experienced fluctuations in trade in the health and building materials sectors. The healthcare sector is dominated by pharmaceutical commodities, which saw an increase of $216,876 in 2023. The construction materials sector is dominated by iron and steel commodities, with no specific data available for the post-normalization period, but it is estimated that trade cooperation in iron and steel between Iran and Saudi Arabia continues, according to statements by Ruhollah Latifi.
