Abstract
Turmeric is a type of rhizome widely used in the food, pharmaceutical, and traditional herbal industries. The manual process of grating turmeric requires considerable time and labor, thus necessitating an efficient supporting tool. This research aims to design and develop a turmeric grating machine powered by a 200-watt electric motor, intended for small- and medium-scale business operators. The method involves the stages of design, fabrication, and machine testing. The design process considers both technical and economic aspects, including material selection, component design, and manufacturing processes such as cutting, drilling, welding, and assembly. The machine is constructed using an angled iron frame, a stainless steel grating blade, and is equipped with input and output funnels.Test results show that the machine can grate turmeric with an average working capacity of 0.297 kg/min and produce 0.87 kg of grated turmeric from 0.9 kg of raw material. The total production cost of the machine is Rp923,000. This machine is considered effective and feasible to support turmeric processing productivity in a practical and economical way.
