Abstract

Background: Patients in the ICU often experience critical conditions accompanied by anxiety and severe pain, which can hinder the healing process. Pharmacological approaches are sometimes inadequate, so additional methods are needed to overcome this problem. Objective: Autogenic relaxation reduces anxiety and pain through positive suggestions, calm visualization, and focus on breathing. Methods: This study was an observational descriptive case study conducted at the Pusdokkes Polri Bhayangkara TK.I R.Said Sukanto Hospital. The subjects consisted of two ICU patients with complaints of pain and anxiety. Inclusion criteria included productive age patients who were conscious and willing to become respondents. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and physical examinations. The intervention provided was autogenic relaxation training 2-3 times a day according to SOP. Results: Both patients showed complaints of severe pain based on the NRS scale 9/10, and VAS 9/10, and severe anxiety based on HARS 33/56. The main diagnoses were acute pain and anxiety. After 2-3 days of intervention, there was a significant decrease in anxiety and pain levels. Suggestion: Autogenic relaxation can be applied routinely as a complementary therapy to support patient recovery in the ICU
