Abstract
Chronic kidney disease is a condition of permanent kidney damage characterized by a decrease in glomerular filtration rate. Hemodialysis is one form of renal replacement therapy provided to patients with end-stage chronic kidney disease, also known as End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). One of the common complaints experienced by patients undergoing hemodialysis is fatigue, which is caused by electrolyte imbalances and fluctuations in blood urea levels. To address this issue, hand and foot massage therapy is administered as a non-pharmacological method. The aim of this nursing intervention is to evaluate the effectiveness of hand and foot massage therapy in reducing fatigue levels in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis at the Hemodialysis Unit of RSUD Tarakan Jakarta. Fatigue levels were measured using the Visual Analogue Scale for Fatigue (VAS-F) instrument. Over the course of 12 therapy sessions, a decrease in fatigue levels was recorded: from severe fatigue (score of 8) to mild fatigue (score of 3) in managed patients, and from severe fatigue (score of 7.5) to moderate fatigue (score of 4) in follow-up patients. These results indicate that hand and foot massage are effective in reducing fatigue levels in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis. Future research is expected to involve a larger sample size and long-term observation to evaluate the sustained effects of this therapy, as well as to explore the physiological mechanisms underlying fatigue reduction through massage therapy
