Abstract

Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) is one of the additive manufacturing technologies based on welding processes that enables the layer-by-layer fabrication of metal components by melting a filler wire as the primary material. This method offers high production speed and relatively low cost, but the quality of the final product strongly depends on the process parameters used. This study aims to analyze the effect of varying current and welding speed on the microstructure and interlayer bonding quality of stainless steel 308 processed using WAAM with the Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding method. The experiment was conducted using current variations of 80 A and 100 A, and welding speeds of 2,5 mm/s and 3,0 mm/s. Microstructural examination was performed through microscopic observation of three deposited layers. The results show that the combination of high current and low welding speed produced a well fused zone and strong interlayer bonding, although accompanied by coarse grain growth. On the other hand, low heat input parameters formed finer grains but were associated with porosity and weaker bonding. The optimal parameter was achieved with a combination of 100 A and 2,5 mm/s.
