Abstract
Diesel engines are engines that have high efficiency, high power, and low fuel consumption, but all of that must be paid for by the high emissions generated from the diesel engine itself. Several researches have been undertaken with the aim of boosting performance while minimising emissions, One approach involves modifying the shape of the piston bowl. The engine used is a four-stroke single-cylinder Shark R180 with 5.15 kW output rated. The simulation in this study was conducted using the Diesel-RK programme. This study uses 3 types of piston bowls, namely U, W, and Re-Entrant types, with different diameters in each type. With variations of -2mm, -1mm, standard, +1mm, and +2mm. The lowest NOx emission of 1593.4 ppm was achieved by the Re-Entrant Type piston with a diameter of 51.30 mm. Meanwhile, the W-Type piston with a diameter of 54,36 mm produced the lowest PM emissions of 0.53764 g/kWh, the highest power of 5.5072 kW, the lowest SFC of 0.25325 kg/kWh, and the largest BMEP of 6.3209 bar, signifying the best performance and efficiency.
