Abstract
Excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation can increase the risk of skin cancer, especially on the face, which is frequently exposed. This research aims to design and develop a smart cap that reduces UV exposure and functions as a wearable device to monitor the UV index and provide protection to users by reducing exposure when it reaches harmful levels. Several previous studies have developed UV monitoring devices, but they were limited by their lack of wearability. In this research, the GUVA-S12SD sensor was used to measure the UV index and the ESP32 microcontroller as the main processor, which transmits data via a Wi-Fi connection. Furthermore, classification was performed between the ADC values output by the GUVA-S12SD sensor and UV index reference data. The test results show that the system can read UV data with an accuracy of 78.57% compared to Weather.com, 85.39% compared to Tutiempo.net, and 93.88% compared to BMKG. The servo motor used to automatically move the polycarbonate visor, showed a movement accuracy of 97.86%. Moreover, the use of the polycarbonate visor was able to reduce UV exposure by up to 97.14%. This system is expected to help users reduce UV exposure and thereby lower the risk of UV-related skin damage, particularly on the face.
