Abstract

This research discusses the representation of the United States' hegemonic memory politics toward Russia in the post-Cold War era as depicted in the video game Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative approach, this study employs Edward S. Herman and Noam Chomsky's Manufacturing Consent theory and the concept of Hegemonic Memory to examine how the game's narrative constructs collective perception and reinforces U.S. ideological dominance. The analysis focuses on four of the five media filters in Manufacturing Consent: Ownership, Flak, Sourcing, and Anti-Communism Fear—all of which are implicitly present in the game's content. The findings reveal that the game actively embeds biased narratives favoring the United States by portraying its adversaries, distorting historical events, and embedding ideological propaganda, particularly within the Cold War setting. This study also recommends analyzing other military-themed games produced by non-Western developers as subsequent comparative research, employing the same conceptual framework
