Abstract
Indonesia has long been known as a spice-producing country. However, due to colonization, the visibility of Indonesian spices tends to be less prominent than that of other spice-producing countries such as Vietnam or India. Therefore, efforts are needed to increase the visibility of Indonesian spices, one of which is through Indonesian cuisine.. This research aims to identify how Indonesian diplomacy, both by state and non-state actors, promotes Indonesian spices in the Netherlands through a case study of the Indonesia Spice UP The World program in the period 2021-2024. The theories used in this study include Gastronomic Diplomacy as a derivative of public diplomacy and cultural diplomacy, as well as the theory of multi-track diplomacy to clarify which actors are involved in promoting Indonesian spices in the Netherlands. The method used in this research is qualitative with a case study approach. The data sources used in this research are primary data from interviews with several actors such as the Indonesian Embassy in The Hague, several representatives of the Indonesian Student Association in the Netherlands, and also a representative of one NGO, the Spice Country Foundation. The results of this research indicate that the ISUTW program has not been maximally effective in promoting Indonesian spices in the Netherlands. Keywords : Indonesia, Diplomacy, Spices, ISUTW, Netherlands
