Abstract
In the 2022–2024, a number of ASEAN member countries show a significant downward trend in terrorism cases based on Global Terrorism Index (GTI) data. This achievement cannot be separated from the contribution of various parties, including ASEAN as an international organization in supporting the handling of terrorism in Southeast Asian countries. ASEAN actively takes steps to overcome the issue of terrorism in the Southeast Asia region through various work plans and counter-terrorism policies that are integrated through collective mechanisms. This research uses a qualitative-descriptive method to discuss how ASEAN's role has supported the handling of terrorism in the Southeast Asia region throughout 2022–2024. By using the concept of the role of international organizations by Clive Archer, the results of this research show that ASEAN has played a role as an instrument such as providing a legal and strategic framework; as an arena that facilitates regional coordination and collaboration; and as an independent actor. These three ASEAN roles have been proven to support handling terrorism in Southeast Asia in 2022-2024 with more sustainable collective efforts.
