Abstract
ABSTRACT This research explores the role of Indonesian female police officers (Polwan) in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) during the 2020–2023 period. The study focuses on analyzing their contributions within the framework of peacekeeping operations and feminist theory. Using a qualitative approach through literature review and case study analysis, the research highlights how Indonesian Polwan have played a crucial role not only in maintaining security—such as through patrols and law enforcement—but also in humanitarian efforts, community engagement, and women’s empowerment. Their presence has strengthened community-based approaches to peacekeeping and fostered an inclusive environment, particularly for vulnerable groups such as women and children. Furthermore, their participation reflects the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2538, which promotes gender equality and increased participation of women in peacekeeping missions. The findings demonstrate that the active involvement of Indonesian Polwan significantly enhances the operational effectiveness of UNMISS and contributes to Indonesia's standing in global humanitarian diplomacy and gender-based security initiatives.
