Abstract

This study aims to determine the optimum condition in the 3D printing process by focusing on the optimization of the filament extrusion stage using PLA and PP plastic pellets. The filament was produced using a self-built extruder machine with variations in nozzle diameter (2 mm, 3 mm, and 4 mm) and heating temperatures (180°C, 200°C, and 220°C). The resulting filament was evaluated based on diameter consistency, visual defects, and feasibility for 3D printing. Qualified filaments were then used to print XYZ Calibration Cube specimens using the Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) method as a quality validation step. Further evaluation was performed by measuring the dimensional deviation of the printed specimens as an indicator of extrusion quality. The results showed that the optimum parameters were achieved using PLA material, a 3 mm nozzle, and 220°C temperature, which produced low-deviation filament and printed objects with a minimum dimensional deviation of 0.13%. In contrast, PP material exhibited frequent defects and large deviations, making it less suitable for printing.
