Abstract
Male infertility is a complex health issue influenced by various factors. One important parameter in the analysis of male fertility is spermatozoa concentration. Age and smoking habits are suspected to contribute to sperm quality, particularly its concentration, although previous research findings have been inconsistent. To determine the relationship between age and smoking habits with spermatozoa concentration in infertile men at Nuraida Hospital, Bogor, during the period from January 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025. An analytical observational approach with a cross-sectional design was employed in this study. The sample consisted of 62 infertile male patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Secondary data were collected through medical records, then analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The majority of respondents were in the middle adulthood age group (61.3%) and were smokers (56.5%). Most participants had spermatozoa concentration categorized as oligozoospermia (72.2%). The results of statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between age and sperm concentration (p = 0.010) and between smoking habits and sperm concentration (p = 0.008). It was found that men in middle adulthood were 4.5 times more likely to experience oligozoospermia compared to those in early adulthood (OR = 4.513). Smokers were 4.8 times more likely to experience oligozoospermia (OR = 4.800). A significant relationship was found between age and smoking habits with sperm concentration in infertile men. Further research with additional variables is needed to support and expand these findings.
