Abstract
Plastic waste is an inorganic waste that is difficult to decompose naturally and is one of the biggest contributors to environmental pollution. One type of plastic waste that is commonly found is plastic bottles made from Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET). To overcome these problems, simple technology is needed that can facilitate the processing and recycling of plastic bottle waste. This research aims to design and build a plastic bottle waste press machine with a screw press system that is able to press waste into a solid so that it is easier to pack and transport. The research method includes literature study, concept design using CAD software, manufacturing process, assembly, and function and capacity testing. The machine is designed with dimensions of 47cm × 47cm × 86cm and uses a screw mechanism as a pressing system. The test results show that this machine is able to produce an average pressing volume of 1,792 cm³ with a working capacity of 10 kg/hour. The total production cost of the tool is Rp4,424,000. Thus, this machine is considered technically and economically feasible to be applied as a solution in reducing the volume of plastic bottle waste. Keywords: Press machine, PET bottle, Screw press
