Abstract
In international relations, the existence of the political economy sphere in the implementation of international trade is interrelated. As seen in Latin America during the leadership of President Jair Bolsonaro from 2019 to 2022, there has been a change in Brazil's trade policy toward China. The confrontational statements made by the Bolsonaro administration during the early stages of his presidency regarding trade with China, Brazil's primary trading partner, paradoxically revealed a sharp increase in trade volumes during his tenure and growing dependence on China in the final year of his presidency. This study aims to analyze the reasons behind Brazil's trade policy changes toward China during Jair Bolsonaro's presidency from 2019 to 2020. The theory used in this study is international trade policy, employing qualitative research methods through interviews and observations by the researcher, utilizing documentation from a series of sources related to the Brazilian government. The study concludes that domestic and international factors drove President Jair Bolsonaro to change Brazil's trade policy toward China.
