Abstract

The significant growth in motorcycle users in Indonesia has driven the need for reliable automotive components, one of which is the swing arm as a vital part of the rear suspension system. This study analyzes the structural performance of a monoshock-type swing arm made of Aluminum 6063-T5 through a numerical simulation approach using the finite element method (FEM) on the geometry of the Yamaha MX King swing arm. The simulation was conducted using CAE software for three static loading scenarios: vehicle load only, load with rider, and load with rider and passenger. The parameters analyzed include von Mises stress, total deformation, and safety factor. The results show that the maximum stress (31,542 MPa) is still far below the material's Yield strength (145 MPa), the maximum deformation is only 0.27558 mm, and the minimum safety factor is 4.598, indicating that the structure is in a safe condition. Thus, the swing arm design is deemed structurally feasible, and this study underscores the importance of applying FEM analysis in the development of precise and safe automotive components.
